In 2018, Chrome started marking all HTTP pages as “Not Secure”, thus forcing a lot of webmasters to move to HTTPS by obtaining SSL certificates.

Today ZorbasMedia will tell you about SSL certificates, what are they used for, where to get them and why it is impossible to run campaigns without them in 2019.

Why do I need an SSL certificate for my landing?

An SSL certificate encrypts your user’s personal data and transfers it safely, which makes it more difficult for fraudsters to collect or replace this information. However, SSL can be useful not only when it comes to ensuring secure data flow.

If you don’t have this certificate installed on your landing, users will get notifications telling them that this web page is not secure. And, of course, in this case your conversion rate will be low.

Such notification may differ. For instance, if you use an HTTPS protocol but lack an SSL certificate, then Google Chrome won’t allow a user to go to your landing by displaying a red screen.

The installation of an SSL certificate on your web page will help you to resolve these issues and make your landing more trustworthy.

What kinds of SSL are there?

When it comes to a landing page, the simplest SSL certificate will suffice. For instance, a DV (Domain Validation) certificate will encrypt date and disable a “Not Secure” warning.

Websites for collecting money or data which provides access to money should get an EV (Extended Validation) certificate. This can be obtained only by a real owner organization, such as a bank, a pay site, or mass media. The distinctive feature of this kind of certification is that it makes the address bar turn green and display the name of the corresponding organization.

Small online stores, charity fundraising sites or forums should use an OV (Organization Validation) certificate. In this case the address bar will turn green and a green padlock will appear next to the name of the organization.

Where to get this certificate?

There a lot of various options, but first of all it is advisable to turn to the support of your hosting or tracker. Binom Tracker, for instance, will be happy to help you. You can also go to let’s encrypt and obtain a free DV certificate yourself. VestaCP and Cloudfalre will also enable you to obtain a certificate in just a few clicks.

If you need an EV or OV certificate, then you’ll have to turn to certification services, such as comodo, Digicert and GeoTrust.

By the way, these certificates are valid only for a limited period, so don’t forget to extend them. We will talk about it in detail below.

And now some subtleties that you should take into account

After you have obtained a certificate, you should optimize redirection, inform search engines that you have changed your protocol and move from absolute to relative links on a server. In this case transition from HTTP to HTTPS will go smoothly and won’t damage you search position, but bear in mind that you website has to be indexed.

Take a note that if you have installed an SSL certificate, but still use date from unprotected resources, then it won’t be displayed correctly, if at all. In this case a browser will most likely indicate that the link leads to an unprotected resource, and a user will get a negative impression of your landing page or website.

To conclude, it is very important to install an SSL on your website because nowadays it directly affects your conversion rate. You can an SSL certificate quickly and free of charge. Hope we’ve managed to help you in this regard.
